British Science Week began at St Michael’s with an unforgettable visit from a mobile Planetarium! Dr. Galloway guided our Prep and Pre-Prep children on a tour of the solar system, sparking their curiosity with an engaging Q&A. Meanwhile, Year 5’s coding lesson saw them creating astronaut reaction games in Scratch. They timed their reactions and compared them to the speed of the International Space Station!
Prep children were also captivated this week by a series of expert talks. We welcomed space expert Mr Smith, who took us on a fascinating journey to each of the planets. Then, pharmacist Mrs Subasinghe revealed the crucial role science plays in her work. Finally, Mr Wells shared insights into the world of energy, focusing on crude oil and its impact on our daily lives.
Younger pupils didn’t miss out with Reception creating their own coffee filter planets, going on a glittery moon sand exploration and galactic water play. They even popped into the Science room to take a look at the various objects including Steve the Skeleton! The children loved sitting on the stools to feel what it would be like when they move up into Prep from Year 3.
A truly inspiring week of science. And thank you to our parents who gave up their time to speak to pupils and spark their interest!
