Students in Years 4 and 5 enjoyed competing at the ISA East Region Athletics competition against 14 other schools.

The children jumped, ran and threw with determination, self belief and passion and had an amazing time. We came away with several medals and some great results, very promising for the athletics season ahead.

The PE team are very proud of all of the students that took part.

Welcome back everyone!

The busiest term of the school year is upon us and we are raring to go. We already have a trip to the House of Lords, the author of Rastamouse, Michael De Souza coming into school and a Prep tag rugby fixture this week – we’re in no doubt this term will see lots more fun activities, achievements and successes to report on.

And as you know, St Michael’s achieved a fantastic ISI inspection which we are so very proud of in addition to a Gold award for the Religious Education Quality Mark.

Have a great term!!

This afternoon 1F built bridges as part of their science lesson, designing them to see how much weight they could sustain before collapsing. Mrs Whitford took charge of the proceedings and working in teams of three, the children created some impressive designs. Competition was fierce but the enjoyment shared by all observing how much the structures could sustain was clear to see. After the experiment, the children completed their conclusions. Well done 1F!

Our Sports Department is always busy but last week was particularly so.

Firstly, our Year 6 girls took part in the Southend Borough Netball competition on Thursday 2nd March and through great effort and a strong team mentality, they made it through to the Finals on the 13th March.

The Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby team were out on the Southend Rugby Club playing fields on Friday for the Essex Tag Rugby Competition. The team worked incredibly hard playing 12 games(!!) losing only one to the overall winners. Well done team!

Finally, on Saturday, it was off to Leeds and the impressive grounds of Worksop College for the ISA Cross Country Finals for Samantha, Folabi and Freya. The pupils put in their best efforts and came 34th, 37th and 54th respectively. A huge well done to you all!

Further sports updates for this week will include sports hall athletics, netball and gymnastics!

We had a wonderful evening welcoming back past pupils, parents, teachers and headteachers to enjoy wine, nibbles and a school tour. Mrs Foy (Head of the current SMSA) even received a long overdue Headmaster’s award for her Year 6 project!

We look forward to welcoming more alumni to further events taking place on the 16th March and 10th May, so please email Pippa Pearce: pearce@stmichaelsschool.com if you wish to attend.
