Feeling the Love in Reception 💝

We have been thinking about St Valentine as Valentine’s Day falls in half term. We learned about his life, and thought about who we love and who loves us. We discussed how we show love to others and what it feels like to know that we are loved.
Then we completed a range of crafts including card making with resources provided, but entirely child-led work, making a love bug to give to a friend and making hearts or patterns in red glitter. Whether or not you get a Valentine’s Day card, we hope you feel the love from Reception.

Children in Forms 3 & 4 have been learning an all important life skill this week – cooking! On the menu were pitta pizzas and jacket potatoes.
Everyone is clearly very proud of the results!
Today was Mr & Mrs Mobbs’ Birthday Breakfast – happy birthday to all our pupils born in February 🥳🎂🎁🎈

A selection of our Year 1 & 2 pupils visited the Len Forge Centre today to play football at the Southend Borough Key Stage 1 Football Competition. They might not have won but they certainly played well and enjoyed the competitive spirit.

Meanwhile, back at school, our Year 5 pupils tested their balance and core strength by holding various gymnastic positions. Using their Chromebooks, they reviewed each other’s techniques and analysed how they could improve.

We had a wonderful evening welcoming back past pupils, parents, teachers and headteachers to enjoy wine, nibbles and a school tour. Mrs Foy (Head of the current SMSA) even received a long overdue Headmaster’s award for her Year 6 project!

We look forward to welcoming more alumni to further events taking place on the 16th March and 10th May, so please email Pippa Pearce: pearce@stmichaelsschool.com if you wish to attend.

In Form 1 the children have been furthering their historical understanding through a study of homes and how houses have changed over time. The children have learned about how certain property features became popular at various times throughout history, for example, thatched rooves, bay windows, decorative brickwork, window shape and frequency etc. This has complimented their work in Science relating to different materials and their properties. Armed with a toolbox of the features of different house styles through the ages, the children closely observed different houses and found evidence that may help age the house. After this practice, the children will similarly explore their own houses and attempt to estimate the date of their construction. Exceptions such as mock-Tudor features or new-build properties in the Georgian style have provided interesting discussion points relating to the reliability of historical evidence. Well done Form 1!
