There are so many talents that both pupils and teachers have at St Michael’s and this week Miss Saunders is in the limelight (being both a teacher and former pupil!).

She has been part of the Leigh Operatics and Dramatic Society for some time and appeared in many productions. This week she has been skipping her way through Legally Blonde The Musical at the Palace Theatre and by all accounts it is a very entertaining watch.

There is still time to go and give Miss Saunders your support with a show tonight and two tomorrow. For tickets go to the Palace Theatre Southend website.

For the fourth year in a row, the pupils of St Michael’s who took the LAMDA exam found out today that they had surpassed themselves and had ALL achieved a Distinction; an incredible achievement!

Mrs Thomas and Mrs Russell said, ‘We are so delighted for the children, they have been a pleasure to direct. To see their commitment, enthusiasm and creativity pay off with Distinctions all round, is a testament to their hard work. We are extremely proud of them.’

The rain held off, and the children had a great sports day with many track and field activities taking place. The support that pupils gave each other, particularly for the field events made for a great atmosphere and showed the true spirit of St Michael’s.

Thank you to all the parents who cheered the pupils on and for their participation in the relay race 🤩

Our Year 1 & 2 gymnastics team had a great time at the SPSSA Borough Gymnastics Competition, with each gymnast scoring on the bar, vault, beam and floor. All of the team scored a silver or bronze award overall.

This is a great achievement for the pupils with areas to work on for next year. Miss Fox said, ‘I’m very proud of the standards of gymnastics across the school which improves yearly. The children should be very proud of how well they did today. I look forward to the Year 3-6 competition later in the year.’

It was GOLD for our year 5 & 6 Sports Hall athletics team today!! Representing Southend in the Essex finals at Garons after our success in the Borough event, the children worked hard giving their best jumps, throws and running at top speeds.

The PE department’s motto of “Teamwork makes the Dreamwork” was on full display. Miss Fox was aiming for a top 3 place as a birthday gift to Mrs Best who served 34 years as Head of PE and the team delivered, achieving first place and leading the event for the whole afternoon.

We are so proud of our small but mighty school. The children are tired but grinning from ear to ear. All that practice has really paid off, well done!

See you all for World Book Day tomorrow wearing either PJs accompanied by your favourite book or dressed as a book character.
