What a great start to the term!!

Pupils from Years 5 & 6 gave their best yesterday at the SPSSA Sports Hall Athletics Competition and came out top in the Small Schools category! They will now go on to represent Southend in the Essex Finals.

Further impressive news is that the team came fourth out of the 24 schools(!!) that participated. A huge achievement and well deserved. ‘I’m really proud of the students, they have worked so hard and showed great teamwork, well done everyone!’ Miss Fox (Head of PE)

On Friday, Year 5 pupil Samantha travelled to the Olympic pool in Stratford for the ISA National Finals and claimed Bronze in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 43.68 seconds.

A great achievement, well done Samantha, St Michael’s is very proud of you!

We recently discovered that Year 5 pupil Louis is an experienced fisherman! He has been fishing with his Dad since he was a toddler and both enjoy being outdoors. The biggest fish he has caught is a pike which weighed 17.8lbs!!
Every time Louis safely weighs the fish he catches treats them very gently, has a quick picture and then returns them to the river to grow even bigger in anticipation of maybe catching the same fish again on another fishing trip. He still has a little help from his dad with the big fish he catches as they can have very sharp teeth!

Well done Louis on a fantastic hobby – who knows one day you might be a champion angler!

Pupils were chosen by their peripatetic music teachers to perform in the Year 3-6 informal concert, if they felt their student had really come on leaps and bounds, regardless of whether a beginner or a seasoned pro!

Head of Music, Miss Tucker has held informal concerts at the school for many years which are just one of the ways St Michael’s instills confidence, pride, and self-belief in our pupils.

A very proud moment for Miss Cook when her dance troupe won Gold yesterday in the ISA National Dance Competition KS2 Groups category. Eva, Florence, Isla, Leighton, Lily, Lila, Lilia, Nyla, Olivia, Rafferty and Samantha performed a lyrical piece to the song Changes. Rafferty also performed a beautiful solo ballet piece as did Samantha, who performed a solo lyrical.

Judges from the prestigious dance company Rambert also awarded Rafferty a Best Performer award and Samantha for Highest Potential. Her award included tickets to see Rambert dancers perform!

What a day! Miss Cook said, ‘I am always so proud of the children’s hard work, dedication and talent that shines through, bringing my choreography to life. I loved every minute of this experience and can’t wait for next year!’
